Hello Kinks,
I have to say recently I have been doing some real discovering in the makeup world... My newest lesson primer! Apparently it's not just for walls. You might think I am just trying to be funny but I had no clue what primer actually did until a few weeks ago.
This whole thing started with a trip to my local MAC (does that surprise you?). Lemme just say it loud & not so proud I am a total grease face. My t-zone could be used to fry eggs & bacon on. I really wish I was joking but its true.
I never go into MAC stores looking for something specifically but just to browse & I always come home with something. Not only am I a grease pot but I have ginormous pores which really bothers me when I put on my foundation. Ready with that question I asked my sales associate what could I do about this. She recommended I try primer. MAC Prep & Prime Skin Base Visage to be exact.
I was told that this product will help reduce the appearance of my pores & help keep me mattified longer. I figured it couldn't hurt to try it.
Primer is defined as:
Beauty 411: Makeup Primers. Think of these products like the primer you'd use for painting a house. The goal is the same: to fill in any bumps, lumps, and uneven spots so that whatever you put on next starts on a smooth, even surface. In the case of your face, that would be concealer, foundation, or powder.
According to WebMD.

MAC Cosmetics says:
"An ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special-effect silicones. Calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, and evens out skin redness. Improves the lay down and application of foundation or powder."
Now for my review:
This product comes in no nonsense packaging a black bottle with a pump. Personally I would have liked to be able to see what's on the inside with a more sheer packaging. The consistency of this product is creamy with no lotion like run to it. MAC Prep & Prime is very shimmery when you pump it out but that doesn't show up on your face when you have makeup on. Even with the shimmer I find this product to have a soft texture that blends well & it does make applying my foundation very easy.

What I love about MAC Prep & Prime Skin Base Visage
- No new breakouts
- Foundation goes on evenly and smoothly
- My makeup wear time has increased by at least 5 to 6 hours.
- My skin no longer looks patchy as the day goes by
- You only need a tiny amount
- Comes with a pump, hygienic
- I don't smell any fragrance
What I don't Love about MAC Prep & Prime Skin Visage
- Doesn't mattify well
- Looks dewy if you have a heavy hand like me
- I have since found better pore hiding products
- No SPF - in the summer I require this from my products
Over all I do really like this product, since I purchased I do now use one primer just for my large pores & this to cover the rest of my face. I find that doing it this way I get the look I want from my makeup. I'm not sure if I will repurchase just yet because I am still learning about primers.
