I have clearly been slacking, last week I was MIA because of all the work I had to do outside of you. Today I am back with a review of another one of the products I picked up at The Makeup Show Smashbox Step By Step Contour Kit. I have to say before I purchased this kit the only thing I had ever used to contour my face was Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer. With the mass amount of contour products hitting the market I wanted something simple, what could be simpler? Three steps contour, highlight shade & bronzer. For Kinks like me who need idiot proof makeup this is just for you.
I have used this product so much that I have hit pan on the contour shade! I rarely hit pain on anything, this is such an accomplishment for me.
WHAT IT IS:
A cult fave of beauty insiders for totally effortless contouring.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT:
Define your cheekbones, perfect your nose and sculpt your jawline with this palette of blendable powders in universal shades to match your skin tone.
JUST THE FACTS:
Includes:
• 3 powders to contour, bronze and highlight
• Angled contour brush
• #SHAPEMATTERS insert with how-to’s for your face shape
One of my favorite things about this palette is that it comes with a mirror and a step by step guide right on the mirror. You get a full guide for each face shape as well but I thought the on the mirror guide was handy for travel.
Contour: An ashy cool brown to mimic the shadows of your face. This shade is pigmented but not overly so, its build-able & very blend-able.
Bronze: A medium cool toned bronzer, which is slightly warmer than the contour shade but not a orangey warm at all. This will warm up the face a little after you've contoured.
Highlight: A light ivory shade that will brighten up under your eyes, cheekbones & the center of your face. This highlight is matte so its great for oily skin girls.
All three of these shades are matte finish, none of these are going to have flash back. A matte highlighter will be great for us combination or oily skin girls. None of these powders read powdery all 3 have a silky feel.
As you see from my photos I LOVE the contour shade in this palette, its a perfect cool toned greyed brown that adds dimension to my face easily. When applying this product you don't have to worry about kicking up tons of powder. The powder itself is not too tightly packed but not too soft either. I plan to buy this palette again just for the contour shade.
The bronzer in this palette is a matte warm brown shade that might pick up slightly orange depending on your skintone. The Smashbox bronzer is a usable shade but it does nothing for me in the summertime. This bronzer is a nice shade but not something I reach for often,.
Finally the highlight shade, which is a warm yellow highlight that also has a matte finish. This shade reminds me of the banana shade in Anastasia Beverly Hill's Contour Kit. This powder is great to set your under eye & give you a brightened look. I really don't see it as a "highlight" on any other parts of my skin.
The bronzer & highlight shade have a more powdery consistency compared to the contour shade. These kick up a lot of product even with a slight tap of the brush. A huge plus for these is the fact that neither look powdery on the skin.
For me the only real dud with this product it the brush! I can't use to contour my face, I do think it makes a beautiful brush. The Smashbox contour brush included picks up to much product, this brush places the product well. I personally can't use to blend, I need a bigger brush to blend everything out.
